ABOUT ME
MY STORY
I was in a meeting at my corporate job when I got the call, my cousin was in labor and asked me to come quickly, she was at the hospital alone! Hours later other family members joined us, a beautiful healthy baby boy was eventually born. The attending nurse looked at me with a smile on her face and said "you were like her Doula!" and this was the first time I had ever heard the word, it was 2018.
Years later, in 2021, my close friend became pregnant. She was advised by her peers to hire a Doula, but she did not have the budget for a Doula. As her friend, and having some experience with attending birth, I gladly offered to become a Doula if it meant she wouldn't have to go without.
So that's what I did, I was trained as a Doula in Spring of 2022, a month before her due date.
As it turns out, it's quite impossible to be a Doula for your friend who lives in another state!
I was so eager to help, that I didn't fully consider the logistics of me getting from North Carolina to Ohio at the drop of a hat, during the lingering end phase of a pandemic!
Needless to say, I did not end up attending her birth, and she did not have a Doula but instead another close friend was by her side. Her birth was traumatic in the sense that she almost died postpartum due to complications with giving birth. I couldn't help but think if that was preventable, had she had a Doula attend her birth.
These experiences have made me passionate about making sure every woman who wants a Doula can have one. I have attended several births since then, and continue to hone my skills so that I can offer the best Doula service to my clients.
I am building a community that creates a win for all members! Whether it’s finding a quality Doula service for an upcoming birth or postpartum period, or a backup Doula when you (a Doula) have an emergency, or childcare so that you (a Doula) can attend a birth - As a community, we can achieve more!
“...I could not have done labor without her, she was there for me emotionally and advocated for me when I needed it.”
